News from August 2008 Wednesday, August 27, 2008, 11:30 p.m. Please forgive me for taking so long to send this update. We have been home for a couple weeks now. We had a wonderful time on our east coast vacation. There is so much I could say that would take too long, so I will just say that we really enjoyed all the sights and opportunities we had. It is beautiful on the east coast. It's so green, and we loved all the history and heritage everywhere we went. We did all the big sights in New York, Philadelphia, Williamsburg, and D.C. Micah did well. It was not as hot or humid as we anticipated. The week we were in Virginia was the hottest, but we were thankful that we were able to keep him comfortable, and it wasn't as big as an issue as we thought it could be. Thank you for all your prayers. The couple we stayed with in Maryland kept saying that they never have weather as nice as when we were there for that time of the year. They said, "You must have brought it with you from California." I thought, "Well, a lot of people have been praying that we would have good weather for Micah's sake so maybe we did bring it with us." God is good! We had to jump back into life right away when we got home. The kids started school last Monday, and Kelly left Tuesday for Sweden. He will be gone for three weeks total. It has been hard not having him home, but we are managing and the kids have been extra good. Micah is getting back into a school routine this week. There have been big changes to his program, and we are still trying to iron out the details. For now I am going with him to school and praying that God will give us wisdom and clarity and peace about what is best for him. There are several things I need to pursue on Micah's behalf. We need to reconnect with a dietician for the Ketogenic diet so that we are under a doctor's care as we make adjustments to his diet. He continues to have episodes of pain and it seems to be related to his digestive system. He also has a thick discharge in his urine that we have tested, and the tests have come back normal, but there is nothing normal about what is happening. We are also pursuing a new physical therapist, and we will be getting an abdomen brace that will help stabilize his middle, so he can maybe breathe easier and move his arms and legs more. Please continue to pray for his overall health and protection from illness. Now that all the kids are back in school, we are exposed to more germs again. Please pray for God to give us clarity about his pain episodes, digestion, urine, diet and medications. We did meet with Dr. Marsh, a pediatric neurologist in Philadelphia, who has done research on MPEI. That was helpful and I will tell more about that in my next update. Thank you for your concern and care for our family. Thank you too for your prayers. |
